Our model shows that the NHS would have spent £502 million less on pregabalin between October 2015 and July 2017, if the patent ruling had not been challenged by Pfizer. This equates to approximately 3.25% of the total NHS England primary care prescribing spend for that period. If Pfizer is unsuccessful in their final appeal, the NHS would be well served by seeking to retrieve these excess costs.
